Zygomatic dental implants are a revolutionary solution for individuals with severe bone loss in the upper jaw who may not be candidates for traditional implants. At The Comprehensive Dental Group of Houston, we are proud to offer this advanced option to help patients restore their smiles, oral health, and confidence.

By anchoring implants in the zygomatic (cheekbone) area rather than the jawbone, zygomatic implants provide a secure and lasting alternative for patients with complex dental needs. Our team will guide every patient on the benefits, procedures, and what to expect when choosing zygomatic dental implants so that you can feel more confident about your new smile, today!

What Are Zygomatic Dental Implants?

Zygomatic dental implants are a specialized type of implant designed for patients with significant bone loss in the upper jaw. Unlike traditional dental implants that anchor into the jawbone, zygomatic implants are placed in the zygomatic bone.

These implants are typically made of titanium, known for its durability and biocompatibility. Once secured, they support your new teeth, restoring both aesthetics and functionality.

Advantages of Zygomatic Implants

  • Ideal for severe bone loss: Zygomatic implants offer a solution for patients who lack sufficient density in the upper jawbone for conventional implants.
  • Immediate functionality: In many cases, zygomatic implants allow for the placement of new teeth the same day, ensuring patients leave the procedure with a functional and confident smile.
  • Long-lasting results: Zygomatic implants are highly durable, offering a reliable long-term solution for dental restoration needs.

Who Is a Suitable Candidate for zygomatic Implants?

Zygomatic implants may be the best choice if you experience:

  • Severe bone loss in the upper jaw.
  • Difficulty with traditional dentures or bridges.

Our expert team at The Comprehensive Dental Group will evaluate your dental health and help determine if zygomatic implants are suitable for your unique needs.

What to Expect During a Zygomatic Implant Procedure at CDGH

The process of receiving zygomatic dental implants is precise and tailored to each patient. Here’s what you can expect:

Step 1. Initial Consultation

Your journey to a renewed smile begins with a comprehensive consultation at The Comprehensive Dental Group. This includes advanced imaging, such as 3D cone beam CT scans, to provide a detailed view of your oral structures. These images allow your dentist to assess the extent of bone loss, the health of your gums, and the overall suitability for zygomatic implants. Based on this evaluation, your dentist will create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs, ensuring optimal placement and long-term success.

Step 2. Preparation

Before the procedure, your dentist will discuss sedation or anesthesia options, ensuring your comfort throughout the surgery. You’ll also receive detailed pre-procedure guidelines, ensuring you’re physically and mentally prepared for the procedure, setting the foundation for a smooth and stress-free experience.

Step 3. Implant Placement

On the day of the procedure, the dentist will place the zygomatic implants directly into the cheekbone (zygomatic bone). These implants are designed to anchor securely in the denser zygomatic bone, providing exceptional stability. In most cases, the final restoration is placed immediately after the surgery.

When necessary, temporary teeth are placed while the implant site heals. These temporary restorations not only restore your smile but also allow you to eat and speak comfortably during the healing period.

Step 4. Recovery and Aftercare

The recovery process is generally straightforward, with mild swelling or discomfort expected for a few days to a week. Your dentist will provide detailed aftercare instructions, including tips for managing discomfort, maintaining oral hygiene, and dietary recommendations.

Follow-up visits are scheduled to monitor your progress and ensure the implants are integrating correctly with the bone. By adhering to these guidelines, you can promote proper healing and reduce the risk of complications.

Step 5. Permanent Implant Placement

Once the implants have fully integrated with your bone (typically within 3–6 months) you’ll return to have your permanent implants fitted. These custom-designed restorations are crafted to mimic the look and feel of natural teeth, completing the transformation of your smile.

The result is a durable, aesthetically pleasing solution that restores both functionality and confidence, allowing you to eat, speak, and smile without hesitation.

This step-by-step process ensures a seamless experience, combining cutting-edge technology with expert care to deliver life-changing results.

I was a patient of Dr. Gervais before he retired and then became a patient under the practice of Dr. Cuellar and Kipp. Of the many compliments I could give, the top three that will make me a patient for life are 1) they were always listening to my concerns, 2) the follow up treatment was always in my interest, and 3) the icing on the cake was the reconstructive work he performed was top tier. Therefore, on a 5 star scale, they max it out! Thank you Dr. Cuellar and Staff for everything!

I have been doing a lot of searching roughly for at least 4 years for the best Dental Implant Dentist. One day as I was watching one of the Television Channels in Houston, Dr. Hanna was the guest along with one of the clinic's client being interviewed. After that episode I decided that " Dr. Hanna " will be that Implant Dentist that i have been looking for. I therefore contacted Comprehensive Dental Group of Houston right away and scheduled an appointment. On day one I was already amazed of the excellent customer service that I received. Everyone in the clinic are very professional, nice and made sure that I was comfortable including my husband . All my questions and concerns were answered in a timely manner. The cost of the Implant and whole process were explained clearly and to me it was reasonable. During the Implant procedure all the staff made sure that I was comfortable and explained all the post procedure expectations. I am very happy and satisfied with the excellent customer service that I received. Many Thanks to Dr. Hanna and to all the staff for all the hard work and dedication. I therefore highly recommend Comprehensive Dental Group of Houston for and any Dental services and Implant needs.Update on my review: My final teeth were placed after months of careful adjustments to ensure that it was the right fit.
