What Are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are a custom solution designed to fill the gap left by one or more missing teeth. Not only do they restore the appearance of your smile, but they also prevent dental issues like tooth shifting, gum disease, and difficulty chewing. By filling these gaps, dental bridges help restore both the functionality and aesthetics of your smile.

Types of Dental Bridges

Traditional Fixed BridgesDental Implant with Bridge
Support
Uses adjacent natural teeth as support.
Relies on dental implants placed in the jawbone for support.
ProcedureInvolves preparing adjacent teeth, taking impressions, and placing a custom bridge.Implant placement and bridge attachment.
SuitabilityIdeal for patients with healthy adjacent teeth.Best for patients missing multiple teeth or those without sufficient healthy teeth for a traditional bridge.
DurabilityHighly durable but dependent on the health of surrounding teeth.Extremely durable, with implants fusing with bone for a long-lasting solution.
AestheticsOffers a natural look, blending with surrounding teeth.Provides a highly natural appearance, especially with porcelain implants.
Both options offer long-term solutions for missing teeth, with traditional fixed bridges being quicker and more affordable, while implant-supported bridges provide added benefits such as bone preservation and greater durability.

Dental Bridge Procedure: Step-by-Step

Step 1. Initial Consultation and Exams:

During your first visit, we’ll perform a thorough examination and take impressions of your teeth. This step ensures that the dental bridge will fit perfectly.

Step 2. Tooth Preparation and Impressions:

In the second appointment, your adjacent teeth will be prepared, and a mold will be taken. These impressions are sent to a lab where your custom bridge will be crafted.

Step 3. Fitting and Cementing the Bridge:

Once the dental bridge is ready, we’ll fit it and ensure it aligns properly with your bite. After adjustments, the bridge is permanently cemented in place.

I was a patient of Dr. Gervais before he retired and then became a patient under the practice of Dr. Cuellar and Kipp. Of the many compliments I could give, the top three that will make me a patient for life are 1) they were always listening to my concerns, 2) the follow up treatment was always in my interest, and 3) the icing on the cake was the reconstructive work he performed was top tier. Therefore, on a 5 star scale, they max it out! Thank you Dr. Cuellar and Staff for everything!

I have been doing a lot of searching roughly for at least 4 years for the best Dental Implant Dentist. One day as I was watching one of the Television Channels in Houston, Dr. Hanna was the guest along with one of the clinic's client being interviewed. After that episode I decided that " Dr. Hanna " will be that Implant Dentist that i have been looking for. I therefore contacted Comprehensive Dental Group of Houston right away and scheduled an appointment. On day one I was already amazed of the excellent customer service that I received. Everyone in the clinic are very professional, nice and made sure that I was comfortable including my husband . All my questions and concerns were answered in a timely manner. The cost of the Implant and whole process were explained clearly and to me it was reasonable. During the Implant procedure all the staff made sure that I was comfortable and explained all the post procedure expectations. I am very happy and satisfied with the excellent customer service that I received. Many Thanks to Dr. Hanna and to all the staff for all the hard work and dedication. I therefore highly recommend Comprehensive Dental Group of Houston for and any Dental services and Implant needs.Update on my review: My final teeth were placed after months of careful adjustments to ensure that it was the right fit. I was so happy and impressed how it looked really good and felt right. The fit is impressive. Many Thanks again to Dr. Hannah and to the whole team of Comprehensive Dental Group of Houston. A very special Thanks and shout out to "KIPP", he is "awesome " He is very knowledgeable, competent, gentle, caring and professional . He helped me so much throughout this process. Again I highly recommend Comprehensive Dental Group of Houston for Dental Implant Dentist.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a dental bridge cost in Texas?

The cost of a dental bridge in Texas can vary depending on the type of bridge, materials used, and the number of units required.

Yes, dental bridges are generally considered worth the money, especially if you’re looking to restore both the function and aesthetics of your smile. They help prevent tooth shifting, improve speech and chewing, and enhance your overall dental health. When properly maintained, dental bridges can last for many years, making them a worthwhile investment in both your appearance and oral health.

A general dentist with experience in restorative dentistry can provide dental bridges. However, if the case is more complex or requires implant placement, a prosthodontist, who specializes in restorations like bridges and crowns, or an oral surgeon may be the best choice. It’s essential to choose a dentist who has experience with the specific type of bridge you need.

Dental bridges typically last between 10 to 15 years, depending on the type of bridge, the materials used, and how well they are maintained. With proper oral hygiene, regular checkups, and avoiding excessive wear (such as chewing hard foods), a dental bridge can last even longer.

A dental bridge restores both the functionality and aesthetics of your smile by filling gaps left by missing teeth. It can improve chewing and speech, prevent surrounding teeth from shifting, and enhance the overall appearance of your smile. Dental bridges also help maintain the structure of your jaw and facial appearance by preventing bone loss in the area of the missing teeth.

Yes, once a dental bridge is securely in place, you can eat most foods comfortably. However, you may need to avoid very hard or sticky foods during the initial adjustment period. Over time, you’ll be able to enjoy most foods without worry. It’s important to maintain good oral hygiene to keep the bridge in good condition.

A dental bridge can replace one or more missing teeth, typically up to three teeth in a row. If you are missing more teeth, other restorative options like partial dentures or implant-supported bridges may be more appropriate. Your dentist will help you determine the best solution based on your individual needs.
